New Jersey announced on Friday that it will raise the price of a round-trip ticket from Penn Station in New York to MetLife Stadium from just under $13 to $150 - the latter equivalent to almost 1,400 kronor.
The price increase has been criticized by the international soccer federation FIFA, which says that in the long run it could lead to reduced financial returns for New Jersey as the World Cup host. The state, for its part, says the price increase is necessary to cover the cost of hosting the tournament.
