The number of murders in Ecuador rose by 30 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year, Reuters reports.
In 2024, 7,063 people were murdered in the country. In 2025, the figure was 9,216.
According to the country's government, the large increase is due to an escalation in conflicts between rival criminal groups after several gang leaders were killed or captured.
