"The proportion of debtors who are 55 years of age or older has increased from 27.2 to 31.4 percent in one year. This means that almost every third person who receives a debt collection notice today is 55 years of age or older, compared with just over one in four a year ago," writes the Swedish Debt Collection Agency in a press release.
A total of 3,795,662 new debt collection claims were registered during the period, compared with 4,174,672 in the first half of 2025.
The number of completed debt collection cases also declined, by around 5 percent, according to statistics.
