SFV announced this spring that it wants to increase the rent for the Ethnographic Museum by 57 percent. The World Culture Museums are therefore planning to close the East Asian and Mediterranean Museums, which are threatened by similar increases when their leases expire next year.
It sounds completely absurd. But what you have to remember is that we haven't revised the rents in ten years, and that in these corners they have gone up by about 60 percent during that period.
SFV's government mandate involves market-based rents, and further large increases can be expected.
I think there could be several instances where we, after a ten-year period, suddenly demand a very high rent. When we do that, we try to act as predictably as possible.
