The thunderstorms have caused several fires. Aftonbladet reports, among other things, that a barn south of Stockholm caught fire. In Kalmar, a football match had to be canceled when rain and thunder moved into the area, writes Barometern.
Emma Rosengren, a meteorologist at SMHI, says the storm has been most intense from Småland to southern Gästrikland.
In this area, there have been around 4,000 lightning strikes so far, she says.
A warning has been issued for thunderstorms and heavy showers. The warning does not constitute specific advice, but caution should be exercised because of the risk of aquaplaning and reduced visibility when driving in the rain.
The storm is expected to end over the mainland around 6 p.m. It will then move towards Gotland and out to sea in the south. In addition, a yellow warning has been issued for rain in Västerbotten and Västernorrland, which extends until approximately 2 a.m. on Monday.
