Four taken to hospital after heavy fire in Helsingborg

A major fire broke out in an apartment building in central Helsingborg on Monday evening. Four people were taken to hospital after the fire.

The alarm about the incident came at 7:40 p.m. on Monday. According to the emergency services, a fire broke out in an apartment, causing heavy smoke. The smoke then spread to a stairwell.

According to initial reports, flames were shooting out of windows.

The ambulance assessed that a total of twelve people had inhaled smoke to varying degrees. Four of them ended up being taken to hospital, says Mattias Johansson, duty officer at the rescue service.

It is otherwise unclear how seriously the injured people are.

The police are investigating the fire as arson or gross negligence causing public danger.

By 8:30 p.m. the fire was extinguished.
