A group of desperate job seekers pushed their way through the entrance to the sports arena in the capital where the recruitment was held early in the morning – thereby violating security regulations, according to the military.
"The unfortunate incident led to the deaths of six potential recruits and the injury of many others," a statement said.
A large number of injured people are reported to have been transported to a military hospital.
Ghana is struggling with youth unemployment of nearly 40 percent. The economy collapsed during the Covid pandemic and the country now has inflation of over 50 percent.
