A total of 16 players have been named in the preliminary squad for the World Cup qualifiers with the Czech Republic (Prague, November 28) and Slovenia (Gothenburg, December 1).
Several of the key players from the European Championship are not included.
The absence of Pelle Larsson, the biggest star, is a given since the World Cup qualifiers are being decided during the intense NBA season. But Sweden is also forced to do without starting center Simon Birgander, who has declined the qualifiers because he is expecting a new family.
Viktor Gaddefors, also a starting player in the European Championship, is also not selected in the squad. The 33-year-old veteran signaled after the European Championship exit in early September that he may have played his last international match.
Denzel Andersson, Obradoiro, Zaba Bangala, Kangoeroes, Hugo Bergström, Norrköping, Tobias Borg, Palencia, Felix Broström, Luleå, Wilhelm Falk, Murcia, Ludvig Håkanson, Joventut, Daniel Johansson, Pärnu, Olle Lundqvist, Obradoiro, Mattias Markusson, Roanne, Barra Njie, Braunschweig, Oskar Palmquist, Borås, Melwin Pantzar, Bilbao, Kenny Pohto, Pécs, Adam Ramstedt, Göttingen, Felix Terins, Tizona.
Sweden's squad will gather in Södertälje on November 24. The blue and yellow team will meet the Czech Republic in Prague four days later and on December 1, Slovenia awaits in Scandinavium.
