The shooting took place at a school roughly the size of a high school in South Cotabato province on the island of Mindanao.
At an early stage, different death tolls are being reported by different authorities. At least five people have been killed, the German news agency DPA reports, citing a Philippine ministry. The perpetrator, a teenage boy, is said to have then taken his own life. About ten people are reported injured.
