Two people have been killed and several injured in Russian nighttime attacks on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv, the region's governor, Mykola Kalashnyk, said on Telegram.

Several buildings are also reported to have been damaged and to have caught fire in the attacks.

Including the latest deaths, at least 14 people have been killed in Russian drone attacks on Ukraine in the past 24 hours, including five train passengers, AFP reports.

The recent attacks have hit Ukraine hard, as it is experiencing its coldest winter since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of the country in 2022. Thousands of people are living in freezing apartments after repeated Russian drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
