A number of people were injured in an act of violence that occurred just before 1 p.m. on Wednesday at a school in Schongau, south of Munich, German media report.
Two 13-year-old girls are seriously injured but not in a life-threatening condition, according to German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt, who answered journalists' questions near the school. The girls are said to have stab wounds.
The suspected perpetrator is a 16-year-old boy who was armed with both a firearm and a knife.
The suspect's mental state at the time of the attack is described as "acute" by the interior minister. Dobrindt further states that the boy was a student at the school and that he is a citizen of another EU country.
The boy was arrested shortly after the incident, with the support of school staff who calmed the situation.
