The incident occurred at 6:45 p.m. on the E6 at the Stenungsund junction, and rescue services, ambulances and police were called. The police wrote on their website that six people were taken to hospital, two of them seriously injured.
Later in the evening, the emergency health centre said that a total of nine people had been taken to hospital, local media reported.
The truck driver has been arrested and is suspected of gross negligence in traffic.
The accident had a very major impact on traffic, according to the Swedish Transport Administration.
