Several people are missing after a landslide hit a campsite in New Zealand on Thursday morning local time.

Rescue services have been trying to reach people buried in the rubble. Three hours after the collapse, no survivors had been found, according to the rescue services.

The campsite has been closed and the search for survivors continues. New Zealand police say the number of missing people is fewer than ten.

The landslide occurred at the foot of Mount Maunganui on New Zealand's North Island. The debris hit Beachside Holiday Park, in the town named after the extinct volcano.

There have been several landslides on the island recently after heavy rain.
