The incident occurred in Kerzers in the canton of Freiburg - twenty kilometers west of the capital, Bern - when a bus caught fire. Pictures and videos, including in the Swiss newspaper Blick, show that the bus was completely engulfed in flames and destroyed.
At a press conference, Freiburg police announced that at least six people had died. In addition, five people were injured - four passengers on the bus and a paramedic, public service broadcaster SRF reports. Three of the injured are in critical condition, according to the police.
Police currently suspect someone may have started the fire deliberately.
