The earthquake, centered in the Ghorashai area of Narsingdi district, occurred on Friday morning at a depth of about one mile.
Buildings in the capital Dhaka, located about 25 kilometers away, swayed during the quake and many people ran into the streets in panic. It was also in the capital that several people were reported to have died.
