So far, two of the companies have received permission from the Swedish Migration Board to bring in 24 berry pickers. The only company that was granted permission last year has been denied permission this year, according to P4.
Last year, only 89 permits were granted after the Swedish Migration Board tightened its assessment following years of alarms about abuses. This can be compared to the summer of 2023 when over 5,000 permits were granted.
With stricter requirements for labor immigration, Thai berry pickers no longer receive labor permits, but the pickers can come to Sweden via the EU's seasonal directive.
