The planned attack was to have been carried out last year, on the anniversary of Hamas's terrorist attack on October 7, 2023, in Israel. However, three of the men were arrested days before the intended attack, which, according to prosecutors, was "targeted at Israeli representatives, people of Jewish faith or Israeli citizens."
According to the indictment, the two German citizens who were initially arrested are suspected of having been recruited by Hamas representatives. Later, a Danish and a Bulgarian citizen, as well as three Lebanese men, are said to have joined. All seven are in custody.
Another man, arrested in London last year, is suspected of being the group's leader. He has not yet been extradited. According to prosecutors, he brought weapons to Vienna and made a video in which he claims responsibility for a terrorist act on behalf of Hamas.
