In a statement, army spokesman Majid Abdullah al-Nuzaili wrote that the Houthi movement attacked the city with rockets and drones.
Four soldiers and three civilians were killed and at least 30 more people were injured in the attack, which is said to have targeted civilian objects and infrastructure.
The civil war between Yemen's internationally recognized and Saudi-backed government, the Iran-backed Houthi movement, and the Southern Transitional Council (STC) has been ongoing since 2014. Over 150,000 people, civilians and combatants, have been killed.
