Seven people have been detained in a comprehensive raid against a network suspected of having sold waterpipe tobacco without accounting for tax.

The operation took place on Tuesday at about ten addresses in Arboga, Lindesberg and Strängnäs, according to the Economic Crime Authority.

The suspicions consist of the fact that individuals for a long time have manufactured and sold large quantities of waterpipe tobacco without reporting tax.

Six of the individuals are suspected of serious tax offenses and one person for aiding and abetting serious tax offenses.

"We suspect that a larger network has collaborated on the manufacture and sale of waterpipe tobacco. The sale has taken place over large parts of the country, turned over large amounts, and millions of kronor in tax have not been reported", says prosecutor Joakim Johansson in a press release.

Tax offenses result in billions in tax losses every year in Sweden.
