The Christian Democrats' party board suffered a setback at the party convention when it came to banning candy flavors in white snus and vapes. Health Minister Elisabeth Lann calls it a "partial victory."

The party board had proposed that they work towards a flavor ban, with the exception of traditional adult flavors. The argument was that candy and fruit flavors lure children into nicotine addiction.

This caused a heated debate in the Swedish Parliament, including the problem of determining what should be approved adult flavors.

We say that the EU should not interfere with Swedish snus, but now we are standing alone and interfering with Swedish snus, said Evelina Solem, representative from Uppsala County.

Ultimately, the Riksdag went against the party board. The decision was that KD should work for a tightening of marketing regulations, but no taste ban was mentioned.

It was a very important partial victory, what was passed was that we should tighten the marketing rules, says Elisabeth Lann and continues:

A flavor ban may not turn out to be the most important thing. The most important thing is that we get to the point that attracts children to nicotine products.
