Strömmer (The Moderate Party) visited Uppsala on Friday, where three young people were shot to death at a hair salon on Tuesday. He met with representatives from the police and the municipal management.

The police are working day and night, both to clear up the terrible crime and to create security around Uppsala, said Strömmer to journalists afterwards.

He also visited the crime scene. Many young people came there on Friday to lay flowers.

This affects an entire local community, says Strömmer.

Two of the murdered attended schools in Uppsala.

It is clear that today, students, their parents, teachers, and others must also be taken care of and their anxiety met, says the Minister of Justice.

Risk of violence spiral

On the question of how great the risk is for a new wave of violence in Uppsala, Strömmer answers:

Depending on what kind of crime and depending on what has happened, there may be risks of violence spirals. But how that risk looks in this concrete case, the police must assess.

On Tuesday, the police stated that the act was an isolated incident, but since then, a previously suspected person has been released and four new persons have been arrested.

Strömmer assures that the police have the resources they believe they need and that a powerful mobilization of the police in Uppsala is taking place.

"A ten-year journey"

On the question of whether he thinks the government is succeeding in combating gang violence with its policy:

We are in the middle of a serious security situation, where organized crime, not least, has a very ruthless grip on our society.

Strömmer states that the government is doing everything it can to reverse the development, among other things, by giving the police new tools and resources.

At the same time as we see that gun violence has gone down in recent years, we are brutally reminded this week of what violence capital there still is in our society and how many are willing to use it.

He repeats that it may take ten years to get to grips with gang criminality.

We are two and a half years into a ten-year journey, says Strömmer.
