The 28-year-old doctoral student from China was convicted in March for having drugged and raped ten women in the United Kingdom and China between 2019 and 2024. The perpetrator filmed the assaults and the videos have been part of the evidence.
The life sentence, which was established on Thursday, means that he will have to spend at least 24 years in prison, reports British media.
The extent of his crimes, which took place in two countries, makes him one of the worst perpetrators we have seen, says investigator Richard Mackenzie to The Guardian.
More and more testimonies from women have come in since the 28-year-old was convicted and the police fear that around 50 more women may have been subjected to similar assaults by the man.
