The idea was that Serena Williams, together with her sister Venus, would start the doubles tournament on Saturday.
But that is not how it will be. In a post on Instagram, the 44-year-old announced that she suffered an injury to her right knee during the loss in the singles tournament.
"Getting the chance to play alongside Venus once again meant everything to me. But unfortunately my knee is not ready to compete," she writes.
But the 23-time Grand Slam winner is ready to continue playing on the biggest tennis stages. The next Grand Slam tournament is the US Open, which begins at the end of August.
"All I can say is, stay tuned. We might see you in a city near you," she writes on Instagram.
