"I'm thrilled to announce my ownership role in Canada's first team in WNBA. This is not just about basketball, but about highlighting the value and potential that female athletes have. I've always said that women's sports are an incredible investment opportunity", says Williams in a statement.

Williams will have an active role in designing the team's competition uniform.

Serena Williams is one of the greatest tennis players in history and won 23 Grand Slam singles titles during her professional career, which started in 1995 – at the age of 14 – and ended with the US Open in 2022.

Toronto Tempo will start playing in WNBA in 2026.
