The promise to leave office in that case also means that new elections can be called.
"I will be president for only a few more weeks, then I will resign," Vucic said in Belgrade, adding that he intends to support his party, the nationalist SNS, in an upcoming election.
Protests against the government and corruption in the country have occurred repeatedly since November 2024, when 16 people died in a roof collapse at a train station in the city of Novi Sad.
Vucic has previously raised the issue of new elections, but without specifying such a tight timeframe. Regular presidential and parliamentary elections are scheduled for next year.
