When the federal police tried to enter a Bosnian Serb government building in the city of East Sarajevo to arrest Dodik, they were hindered by authority guards, according to the police.

Milorad Dodik held a press conference shortly after the incident and accused the federal police of having broken the law.

I do not intend to leave this building under pressure, he said.

Milorad Dodik was sentenced in February to one year in prison and was banned from holding political offices for six years due to "separatist actions". He has since refused to report to the authorities.

Dodik is the president of Republika Srpska, the Serbian part of Bosnia-Herzegovina. He has repeatedly demanded that the territory be separated from the rest of Bosnia.

Corrected: In an earlier version of the text, there was an incorrect statement about who tried to carry out the arrest.
