The announcement comes a day after Prime Minister Djuro Macut dissolved the country's parliament, following two years of widespread anti-government protests.

In an interview with state television channel RTS, President Aleksandar Vucic said:

Elections will be held in Serbia on October 25. I believe that after the elections we will finally get out of this crisis.

Aleksandar Vucic has been the president of Serbia since 2017.
