Global temperatures were 1.63 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels, making September the second consecutive month with temperatures above 1.5 degrees. Temperatures are also expected to exceed this mark in the coming months, and the streak is expected to continue into 2027.

In Europe, the dry and warm conditions that characterized the summer continued. With an average temperature of 16.26 degrees, the month was the third-warmest September on record for Europe as a whole. In Western Europe, it was the warmest September on record, tied with September 2023.

At the same time, sea surface temperatures outside the polar regions were the warmest ever recorded for September.
