According to the U.S. military command CENTCOM, the attack is part of the U.S.'s ongoing efforts to combat terrorists who pose a threat to the United States or to Americans abroad.
The United States began military operations in Syria over ten years ago, assisting local Kurdish-dominated forces in the fight against ISIS.
Earlier this year, U.S. and Syrian authorities announced that Syria had regained control of the major bases previously held by the terrorist group. However, U.S. forces are still conducting regular operations against the remaining dormant ISIS cells in the country.
