The American traffic safety authority NHTSA says to NBC that they have been in contact with Tesla regarding the incidents.
"We are aware of these incidents", says NHTSA.
"NHTSA discusses problems regularly with manufacturers and prioritizes safety for all road users", says the authority.
In several video clips that NBC has taken part of, Tesla cars can be seen driving towards railway tracks at the same time as the barriers are lowered, in several cases the drivers have had to intervene to avoid colliding with passing trains.
Tesla's self-driving function is an add-on package in the cars that is described as "the transport of the future." The driver must constantly monitor the driving and be ready to take over if needed. The function is not available on Tesla cars in Sweden.
