According to the Västra Götaland County Administrative Board, which issued the sanction fee, security work at the university has been a low priority for several years. The County Administrative Board believes this is due to "gross negligence and lack of respect."
The shortcomings were noted in the fall of 2024. The University of Gothenburg says it has stepped up security measures since 2025.
"These are serious criticisms and shortcomings that we have a responsibility to address, which we are now working on," GU writes in a press release.
