Sales on the second hand market decreased in May by nearly 30 percent compared to the same month last year, according to Svensk Handel's Pre loved indicator.

At the same time, the proportion who stated that they had shopped second hand in May was slightly higher than it was in May last year, according to the indicator.

All categories reported lost sales. The largest decline was for furniture and home furnishings, followed by books and magazines.

During January to May, second-hand sales have fallen by 18 percent compared to the same period last year. According to Svensk Handel, one explanation may be that more consumers are buying new goods due to reduced cost pressure on households.
