A second child with measles has died in Texas, announces the US federal health authority HHS. The exact cause of death is still being investigated, reports NBC News.
This is the second child to have died during an outbreak in Texas, where 481 cases of the infection have been confirmed since January. An adult is also suspected to have died from the disease. If it is confirmed that the cause of death is measles, these would be the first deaths in the US in ten years.
Nationally, 628 cases of measles have been reported in 2025.
US Health Minister Robert F Kennedy is expected to attend the deceased child's funeral on Sunday.
