SEB Falls 4.6% as Stockholm Market Rises, After Swedish Regulator Raises Capital Requirements

Major bank SEB fell sharply on the Stockholm Stock Exchange after being reprimanded by the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (the financial regulator). The broad OMXS index, however, rose 0.2 percent.

SEB fell the most among the most-traded stocks on the OMXS30, dropping 4.6 percent. The decline came after the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority decided to impose a temporary surcharge on the bank’s capital requirements.

Industry rival Swedbank was dragged down, falling 0.2 percent.

Mining company Boliden and the Wallenberg family’s investment company EQT also had a tough day, both falling 2.7 percent.

Pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca rose the most, gaining 3.4 percent. Telecom company Ericsson rose 2.2 percent ahead of its interim report on Thursday.

At the close in Stockholm, the stock markets in Frankfurt, London and Paris had also risen. In New York, all three major indexes were down.
