Great Britain, Norway and the USA have since Sunday carried out a large-scale hunt for a Russian submarine in Norway. The submarine is suspected of having threatened an American aircraft carrier in the Norwegian Sea, according to the British newspaper The Sun.
Surveillance aircraft from Norway, Great Britain and the USA have been sent to the sea area outside Lofoten, where, among other things, the American aircraft carrier USS Gerald R. Ford is located for an exercise together with Norwegian forces in the area. The submarine hunt was, however, not part of the exercise, according to the Ministry of Defence.
A defence source describes the mission as a "very unusual escalation".
