"I can confirm that we have found the missing woman and she is unfortunately deceased," says Commanding Officer Max Åkerwall.
The woman was found on Saturday evening. She had been missing since Boxing Day. Police do not want to say where she was found.
"I will not go into those details right now because the preliminary investigation is at a sensitive stage."
Two arrested
Two people have been arrested. One has been arrested on probable cause, the higher level of suspicion, for murder. The other has been arrested on reasonable suspicion of kidnapping. They were arrested and detained at different times and places.
Max Åkerwall does not want to give any further information about those arrested in order not to influence any witnesses. He says that the information received from the public has been important for the investigation.
"We often say that the public is our best scout, and they have been so in this incident as well. We have received many good and crucial tips."
The police tell Aftonbladet that one person is known to them from before.
Undiminished force
Åkerwall emphasizes that the investigation is still ongoing with undiminished force.
"We are continuing with the same vigor and intensity as we have had in recent days. We are continuing to work with witness interviews, with various investigative processes, lots of evidence, technical analyses, and it is focused work going forward."
During the afternoon, Salem Municipality has also opened the People's House in Rönninge for crisis support for residents in the area. Many have gathered to light candles and leave flowers in memory of the 25-year-old woman.
Present at the People's House are, among others, the chairman of the Social Affairs Committee, Andreas Dahl (S):
"The purpose is primarily to create a sense of security. After the police press conference, we also switched to crisis support," he tells TT and continues:
"Many are crying and depressed and think it is a terrible event in our small municipality. They want answers to the questions that the police are now working hard on."
