Penn beat Stellan Skarsgård to an Oscar on Monday night - but Penn himself was not there to accept the award in the category of best supporting actor for the film "One Battle After Another." Instead, he met Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
The president posted a picture on X showing the two together and wrote:
"Sean, you have shown solidarity with Ukraine since the first day of the full-scale war and we know you will continue to stand by the side of our country and people."
Sean Penn directed the documentary "Superpower" about the war in Ukraine and lent one of his two previous Oscar statuettes to the country as a symbol of his belief in victory.
