The sea drone was bobbing with its engine running when Greek fishermen discovered it in early May. When the vessel was examined, around 70 kilograms of explosives were found.
At first, it was a mystery, but Greek defense experts were soon able to determine that it was a Ukrainian sea drone.
This week, Greece issued a formal protest against Ukraine, saying the vessel posed “a serious threat to maritime traffic and could have caused the death of innocent people,” according to the newspaper Kathimerini.
Now Ukraine is apologizing.
"The Ukrainian side ... emphasizes that it was a result of circumstances caused by the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine," says Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorhiy Tychy.
