The Social Democrats (SD) intend to make elder abuse an election issue, following several high-profile cases of sexual abuse by healthcare professionals.

"You shouldn't have to fear your old age," said SD's social policy spokesperson, Jessica Stegrud, at a press conference.

One of the proposals concerns voluntary camera surveillance to increase security.

"When the home care worker steps inside the door, a camera starts and as soon as they leave, it stops," said Stegrud.

Other proposals involve older people being able to choose the gender of their caregiver when receiving intimate care, an expanded whistleblower service, and increased quality requirements for care workers.
