Most people may believe that "Du gamla, du fria" is already Sweden's national anthem, but this has never been formally established.
The SD believes that now is the time. National symbols play an important role in solidarity and democratic anchoring, the party believes.
The motion written by Oscar Lundqvist, representative from Hallsberg, was one of the few that received the support of the party board during the four days that SD held its congress in Örebro.
"To create clarity in state ceremonial contexts, in schools and at international holidays, "Du gamla, du fria" should also be formally established as Sweden's official national anthem," writes the SD party board.
