”Telling nonetheless that it is a Swedish-born Kurd and a Persian who are debating the cultural canon in Aktuellt", wrote SD-top Jessica Stegrud on X, referring to culture minister Parisa Liljestrand (The Moderate Party) and S's cultural policy spokesperson Lawen Redar. The statement has received sharp criticism and now Sverigedemokraterna announces that one ”has had a conversation” with Stegrud.

Parisa Liljestrand says that she perceives Jessica Stegrud's post as both unnecessary and unclear.

"I think that with the history that SD has, there is a responsibility to express oneself clearly in such issues. For me, it is still unclear what Jessica Stegrud actually means, but it can be interpreted as that I should not have been there", she says in a written comment to TT, and continues:

"It is strange to focus on ethnic background when I debate for a proposal that the government and the Sweden Democrats have agreed to implement. This type of unnecessary comment risks making people feel excluded in Sweden".

Kristersson: Speak clearly

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (M) tells TV4 News that Stegrud has an "incomprehensible tone".

I say exactly like Parisa Liljestrand, what does she really mean? She must answer that question.

Does she mean that Parisa should not be involved in discussing these issues because of her origin? What does she mean? Speak clearly, says Ulf Kristersson to the TV channel.

After the storm of criticism, the Sweden Democrats announced on Wednesday evening that they had had a conversation with Jessica Stegrud and that she "had taken the conversation to heart". The party's group leader Linda Lindberg tells Expressen that they still have confidence in her.

I perceive that it has not been her intention to hurt anyone or specifically point out an origin, but it has been a description of the present, but I also have an understanding of the reactions that have come.

"A glimpse of our present time"

Jessica Stegrud, who is the Sweden Democrats' social policy spokesperson, has also commented on her post and describes it as "a glimpse".

"My tweet was a glimpse of our present time and was about neither competence nor the right to participate in the debate", she writes.

Lawen Redar says that Stegrud's statement shows that the Sweden Democrats "hold on to their roots".

Time and time again, they manifest that certain people should not be part of the Sweden Democrats' community and the Sweden they want to build. And I cannot interpret this comment in any other way.
