The Sweden Democrats are calling Sida's Director General Jakob Granit to the Foreign Affairs Committee after information about Hamas money. The mere suspicion is a "national scandal", writes SD leader Mattias Karlsson on Expressen Debatt.

Swedish aid money has gone to the Palestinian organization ICHR, which has connections to the terrorist organizations Hamas and Islamic Jihad, according to Minister of Development Cooperation Benjamin Dousa (M).

The money, a total of 55 million kronor, has been paid out through the Swedish development agency Sida between 2011 and 2025, Dousa told Aftonbladet earlier in October.

"Either Sida has not had control or they have actively turned a blind eye to the dangers. In both cases, it is unacceptable," writes Sweden Democrats MP Mattias Karlsson, who took over as temporary chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in September.

SD "demands full transparency" and wants Sida's Director General Jakob Granit to come to the Foreign Affairs Committee "to explain what has happened, what procedures have been broken and how this situation could have arisen despite all the warnings," he continues.

Jakob Granit has previously stated that he takes the Hamas connection seriously and that Sida is investigating the information together with several other countries that have contributed to the ICHR.

Karlsson repeats the SD's demand for an independent review of "all Swedish aid from top to bottom" to address what he describes as a "system error" where money is paid out "in the name of goodness, without control, without consequence."

The ICHR has rejected the accusation, calling it “absurd.”
