President Donald Trump is expected to visit the team competition in golf between the USA and Europe during the first day of competition on Friday. Just days after the memorial where the murdered right-wing profile Charlie Kirk was hailed.
It has been some tough weeks for our country considering everything that has happened and having our president here when we represent the USA, even if it is in a golf tournament, is extremely important for us, says the American world number one Scottie Scheffler according to the news agency AFP.
"Just totally incredible"
When Trump earlier in September watched the men's US Open final in tennis on site, it resulted in delays for the audience due to the large security effort, but the USA's captain Keegan Bradley does not believe the president's visit to the golf course Bethpage Black outside New York will be any distraction.
Having the president here in support is just totally incredible. I am honored, says Bradley.
Trump plays a lot of golf himself and owns several golf courses. He usually congratulates Scheffler when the star wins titles.
He is the kind of person who is good at instilling confidence in everyone around him, says Scheffler.
The USA's team does not expect Trump to hold a speech to motivate the players before the meeting with Europe.
"Busy person"
I think President Trump is a fairly busy person. I am just glad he will be here, says Keegan Bradley.
Among the players, Ludvig Åberg is the only Swedish element in Europe's team. His compatriot Alex Norén is one of several vice-captains. The competition will be decided on Friday-Sunday.
