Scotland extends Steve Clarke contract through 2030 World Cup before it starts

If he stays on for the remainder of his contract, his eleven years will be a record-breaking period.

"I am honoured to lead my team in our first World Cup in 28 years and I am proud to continue as national team manager," Clarke said in a press release.

His extension includes the 2028 European Championship, which Scotland will host alongside England, Wales and Ireland.

Scotland plays in this summer's World Cup, which starts in two weeks, in a group with Brazil, Morocco and Haiti.

The former Chelsea defender was appointed as Scotland manager in 2019 and could now become the longest-serving Scottish manager. The current record is held by Craig Brown, who left in 2001 after eight years in the job. Brown led Scotland to the 1998 World Cup.
