Already on the second hole, Dale Whitnell sent his shot straight towards the flag and saw the ball roll into the cup on the par 3 hole.
On hole 12 (par 3), history repeated itself. Thus, the Englishman became the second player of all time on the European Tour (now DP World Tour) to achieve two hole-in-ones in one and the same round.
The first and last time it happened was in 2013 when Andrew Dodt, Australia, performed the feat during the Swedish European Tour event Nordea Masters at Bro Hof.
Whitnell's scorecard for the second round was an odd reading. Apart from the two "ones", an eagle, seven birdies, two bogeys, and a double bogey – plus five pars – were also visible.
With a total of 63 strokes (–9), he rose in the leaderboard after starting the tournament in Durban with a modest 72 strokes, which is the course's par.
Dale Whitnell won the 2023 Scandinavian Mixed at Ullna outside Stockholm.
