A number of serious violent and sexual crimes have previously been included in the criminal-record extract that is submitted to the school prior to employment.

From July 15, crimes against children, honour crimes, offensive photography, weapons crimes and female genital mutilation will be included in the register check.

Certain information in the suspect register must also be included.

In the future, the register extract may not be more than six months old, compared to one year at present.

"Now, significantly more crimes will be caught in the register check carried out prior to employment," said Minister of Education Simona Mohamsson (L) in a press release.
