The hotel chain Scandic Hotels reports an operating result of 194 million kronor for the first quarter of the year. During the corresponding quarter a year earlier, the company made an operating profit of 126 million.

"The year has started steadily and based on the booking situation, we expect a good second quarter. Despite the geopolitical uncertainty, the assessment here and now is that spring and summer will be characterized by good demand", says Jens Mathiesen in a comment in the interim report for the first quarter.

The net sales for the hotel chain, which totals 55,603 hotel rooms, increased by 4.5 billion kronor. The corresponding figure last year was 4.4 billion kronor.

The average occupancy rate increased to 55.1 percent from 51.9 percent during the same period last year.
