Victor Nilsson Lindelöf's Aston Villa were hosting Young Boys in the Europa League when the Swede's teammate Donyell Malen was hit by a thrown object.

It was in the 27th minute that Malen opened the scoring in the match when he headed in a 1-0 win for Aston Villa. The Dutchman ran towards the corner flag to celebrate his goal, but there were the Swiss away fans – who did not take Malen's goal celebration lightly.

Objects began to rain down, including plastic cups, one of which hit Malen in the head. Television footage showed Malen getting a gash and starting to bleed from being hit, but the 26-year-old hardly looked particularly frightened or affected by the incident.

Instead, Malen scored his second goal of the match fifteen minutes later. It turned out to be the decisive goal as the final score was 2–1 after Young Boys reduced the deficit in the final minutes.

Victor Nilsson Lindelöf played the entire match.
