Twelve municipalities have been affected by scam texts since February this year, where scammers pose as private individuals and state that the drinking water has been contaminated, reports Sveriges Radio Ekot.
One of the affected municipalities is Båstad, where the texts have primarily been sent to the elderly.
I think it's about people who want to get into the homes of elderly people and steal things there, says Anders Mårtensson, security chief at Nordvästra Skåne's water and sewage company, to the radio.
Pär Dalhielm at the industry organization Svenskt Vatten says to Ekot that he wants to see a mapping of the phenomenon, which, among other things, should look into whether it could be about hybrid warfare from a foreign power.
