For the first time in 35 years, the number of Masters tournaments on the men's ATP tour is being expanded. It is now clear that Saudi Arabia will be added to the tennis calendar in 2028.

After the four Grand Slam tournaments, the Masters tournaments are the most prestigious on the ATP tour.

Ever since the tournament category was established in 1990, there have been nine, but from 2028 there will be ten Masters tournaments when Saudi Arabia takes a place. It is unclear when during the year the tournament will be played.

ATP and Saudi Arabia's state investment fund (Pif) already have a sponsorship collaboration. Pif is the naming sponsor of ATP's world ranking.

Recently, world number two Jannik Sinner, Italy, won a lucrative exhibition tournament in Saudi Arabia after defeating world number one Carlos Alcaraz, Spain, in the final.

Other Masters tournaments are held in Indian Wells, Miami, Monte Carlo, Madrid, Rome, Toronto, Cincinnati, Shanghai and Paris.
